How to play

  • Pip the parrot calls every turn before you can see it: left or right, easy, sharp or hairpin. Every call pops up as a picture too.
  • Steer into the turn and hold GO. For a sharp turn or a hairpin, slow down first.
  • Go in far too fast and the car spins out, slows right down and loses its feathers.
  • A turn on Pip's call gives a feather. Three in a row switch on the tailwind.
  • Beat a stage's gold time for a postcard. Kids Mode (tap the turtle): the car drives itself and every stage ends in gold.

Controls

  • Phone or tablet: Drag the wheel (bottom left) sideways to steer. Hold GO (bottom right) to drive and SLOW to brake. Stage 1 drives by itself.
  • Keyboard: ↑ W go, ↓ S slow, ← β†’ A D steer. Esc pauses.
  • Mouse: Point where you want the car to go. Hold the left button to go and the right button to slow down.
  • Gamepad: Left stick steers, right trigger is go, left trigger is slow. Start pauses.

Tips

  • Sharp and hairpin calls mean slow: lift off or tap SLOW as Pip says them, or the car spins out.
  • In fog, steer on Pip's call and look for the road coming out of the mist.
  • Three turns in a row on Pip's call switch on the tailwind; a bounce or the grass ends it.
  • Beat a stage's gold time for a postcard; Pip's Daily opens after stage 5.

About this game

Parrot Rally is a rally game where you cannot see the road. Fog rolls over the hills, dust hangs behind the pines, and the jungle is dark, so Pip the parrot, your co-driver, reads the road to you before it appears: "Left!", "Easy right!", "Sharp left, slow!", "Hairpin right!", "Jump, keep straight!". Every call also pops up as a picture with an arrow, so you can play with the sound off.

Listening is how you win. Take a turn the way Pip called it and you earn a feather; three in a row switch on the tailwind and the car goes faster, with a trail of feathers behind it. Take a sharp turn far too fast and the car spins out, slows to a crawl and drops its feathers; bounce off a hay bale and the streak starts again. Sharp means slow, a jump means keep straight, and a rock on the inside of a bend means "don't cut".

Thirty stages take you through six places: a sunny meadow, a dusty pine forest, misty hills, a desert with jumps, a slippery snowy mountain and a night jungle where the headlights only reach so far. The first five stages teach one idea each, with a ghost hand to show you. Beat a stage's gold time for a postcard on Pip's board, and every five stages Pip gets a new hat.

Pip's Daily is one stage a day, the same for everyone, flipped every other day. Pass the phone lets up to four drivers share a device. Kids Mode (tap the turtle) makes the car drive itself so little drivers only steer, and every stage finishes with gold. Free to play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
