How to play

  • Pick your nation and a difficulty. Win group shootouts to reach the knockouts, then win four more to lift the cup.
  • To shoot, swipe up from the ball: it goes where the swipe ends, and a faster swipe hits harder. Bend the swipe to curl it.
  • A red swipe trail means over-hit: under pressure it can fly over the bar.
  • Mix your corners: the keeper learns your habits and leans to your favorite one.
  • In goal, read the kicker's run-up and swipe to dive the moment he strikes. Too early and he goes the other way.

Controls

  • Phone or tablet: Swipe up from the ball to shoot; bend the swipe to curl. In goal, swipe toward the corner as he strikes; a tap stays tall.
  • Mouse: Drag up from the ball to shoot. In goal, drag toward the corner as he strikes.
  • Keyboard: ←↑↓→ aim, hold Space for power and let go to shoot, hold Q or E to curl. In goal: ← or β†’ dives low, with ↑ held high; ↓ blocks low. Esc pauses.
  • Gamepad: D-pad aims, hold A for power, LB and RB curl. In goal, D-pad left and right dive.

Tips

  • Mix your corners: after three kicks to one spot the keeper starts leaning there. Watch his weight shift, then go the other way.
  • Keep your swipe trail white unless you need the power: a red, over-hit shot wobbles and can fly over in sudden death.
  • In goal, wait for the strike. Swipe as his foot meets the ball; diving early lets him pick the other corner.
  • Check the Scout Book line in goal: a named tell is right most of the time, and right more often in the group stage.

About this game

Penalty Shootout Nations is a free penalty shootout game with real ball physics, and you are on both ends of it. Pick one of 48 nations, from Brazil and Bangladesh to Morocco and Japan, and take them through the Nations Cup: three group shootouts, then the Round of 16, the Quarter-final, the Semi-final and the Final. Five kicks each, then sudden death.

When you shoot, swipe up from the ball. The ball goes where your swipe ends, a faster swipe hits it harder and a bent swipe curls it around the keeper. Blast it too hard under pressure and it can fly over the bar. Their keeper remembers your last eight kicks: go to the same corner three times and he starts to lean there before you strike. Watch his weight shift and go the other way.

When you keep goal, every kicker has two tells: a wide run-up, open hips, a glance at the corner, a stutter step, a plant foot or a long run. Read them and swipe to dive the moment he strikes. Dive too early and he sees you go and shoots the other way. Each tell you see come true twice is named in your Scout Book, which you keep from cup to cup.

Players in their nation's colors, a cloth net that balloons, the post that rings, slow-motion replays, fans waving flags, floodlights, rain and a commentator who calls every kick. Score the winning kick and your teammates sprint over to mob you; win the Final and your captain lifts the Nations Cup under fireworks. A Daily Scenario gives everyone the same pressure moment each day, a Locker opens new balls, boots and stadiums, and Pass and Play puts two players on one device.

Penalty Shootout Nations plays in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no download, no sign-up and no chat. Players are made up; there are no real players, competitions or anthems. Players and animations by Quaternius (CC0); emblem flags from flag-icons by Lipis (MIT); commentator voice made with Kokoro-82M (Apache-2.0).
