About this game

A friendly snowman stands in the snow, and a big picture card shows what to spell. Say it, tap the letters, and watch the blanks fill in. A right letter flies into its blank with a chime and the snowman hops. A wrong letter melts one snowflake and one step of the snowman, with a little brr, but he never disappears and nothing ever looks sad. Spell the whole word and he puffs back up, dances, and the picture flips into a sticker that flies into your Word Book.

Every word is spoken aloud, and tapping the picture says it again, so you learn by ear as well as by eye. Each level is a page of five words. There are 60 levels and 300 everyday English words in twelve themes: animals, food, home, school, toys, nature, colors, body, clothes, transport, weather and jobs. Words start at three letters and grow slowly longer.

A guiding hand shows the first word, each of the first five levels teaches one new idea, and a glowing key helps if you wait. Finish a page to win a new accessory for the snowman: earmuffs, mittens, bow ties, glasses and more, 60 in all, and he wears every one on the title screen. Every five levels there is a snow-globe party and a new place to stand, from a farm to a bakery to a starry night.

Kids Mode (tap the turtle) is made for younger players: after three wrong letters a right key glows, after five a letter fills itself in, and there is never a lost word or a game over.

Nothing is timed and nothing needs reading: the picture is the clue and the word is spoken. It runs in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, no sign-up. Picture cards: Twemoji by Twitter, CC-BY 4.0.
