How to play

  • Drag anywhere to fly. The plane moves as your finger moves, and the guns fire alone.
  • A hit unfolds one fold. At zero folds you are a flat sheet: one more hit tears you.
  • Shoot a formation's leader for a fold pick-up and fly into it to refold.
  • A glider flicks sideways to roll through bullets. A crane fires a wider fan with more folds.
  • Every third level ends with a boss of the Tin Legion.

Controls

  • Phone or tablet: Drag a finger anywhere to fly. Flick sideways to roll the glider.
  • Keyboard: ←↑↓→ or WASD to fly, Shift to roll.
  • Mouse: Hold the left button and drag.
  • Gamepad: D-pad to fly, A to roll.

Tips

  • Shoot the leader of a formation: it is the one that drops the fold pick-ups.
  • A glider's roll is a free pass through a wall of bullets. Flick sideways or press Shift.
  • Stay low and sweep side to side to line up whole rows of drones.
  • A flat sheet is not the end: grab any fold and you are back in the fight.

About this game

Paper Ace is a free vertical plane shooter where your plane is a sheet of folded paper. Drag a finger anywhere and the plane follows. The guns fire by themselves, so all you do is dodge the tin toy legion and line up your shots.

The twist is in the folds. Every fold of your plane is a hit point and a weapon. Shoot down the leader of a formation and a fold pick-up drops: collect one and your plane refolds, into a fast dart that pierces, a glider that fires twin shots and rolls through bullets, or a crane that fans out a wide spread. A hit does not end your run. It unfolds one fold and lets you carry on, until you are a flat sheet of paper that tears on the next hit.

Fly through twelve levels of the Tin Legion over a papercraft countryside of card hills, paper rivers and felt fields: wind-up drones, tin planes, turrets on floating islands and striped blimps, across morning, sunset, storm and night skies. Every third level ends with a boss: a tin zeppelin, a clockwork carrier and a wind-up hawk, each with its own patterns of rings, aimed bursts and spirals.

Start with a short flight school that teaches dragging, folding, the glider roll and the crane. Come back every day for the Daily Sky, the same waves for everyone.

Paper Ace plays in your browser on phones, tablets and computers. There is nothing to download, no sign-up and no chat. The enemies are tin toys that burst into bolts and springs: no pilots, no blood and no real aircraft.
