How to play

  • Tap a free tile to lift it, then tap another tile with the same animal. The pair hops onto the boat.
  • Drag sideways to spin the tower. The twin you need is often around the back.
  • A tile is free when nothing is on it and it has room on one side. Tap a stuck tile to see what blocks it.
  • Fill the boat and it sails off while the next one comes in. Clear every tile to light the lighthouse.
  • Undo, Hint and Shuffle are always there. Kids Mode (tap the turtle) can never get stuck.

Controls

  • Phone or tablet: Drag sideways to spin the tower, tap a tile to lift it, tap its twin. Press and hold a tile to preview.
  • Keyboard: ← β†’ turn the tower, ↑ ↓ pick a tile, Space takes it. Z undoes, H hints, T shuffles, Esc pauses.
  • Mouse: Drag to spin the tower, click a tile to lift it, click its twin.
  • Gamepad: D-pad left and right turn the tower, up and down pick a tile, A takes it, B undoes, Y hints. Start pauses.

Tips

  • Spin first: the twin you need is often around the back, and a lifted tile stays lifted while you turn the tower.
  • Tap a grey tile to see why it is stuck: it wiggles and the tiles in its way light up pink. Clear those first.
  • Plan the order: a pair that leaves two matching tiles stacked on each other can strand them. Undo takes it back.
  • When Shuffle is lit, it deals the same tiles again into a tower that can always be cleared.

About this game

Mahjong Boat is mahjong solitaire on a lighthouse island. The tiles are stacked in a ring around the lighthouse, each one with a friendly animal on its face. Tap a free tile to lift it, then tap another with the same animal: the pair hops down onto the boat waiting at the dock. When the boat is full it toots its horn, Captain Otter salutes and it sails away while the next boat chugs in.

Here is the twist. The tower is round, and you spin it with your finger. A tile is free when nothing sits on top of it and it has room on one side, so the free tiles are the steps in the tower's skyline, and the twin you need is often around the back. Lift a cat, spin the tower, tap its twin, and both hop aboard.

Plan ahead: take pairs in the wrong order and you can leave two tiles stuck on top of each other. Undo is unlimited, Hint points at a good pair, and Shuffle deals the tiles again so the tower can always be cleared. Levels start with tiny towers that teach one idea at a time, then grow into tall lighthouses with dozens of pairs, party towers every tenth level and a new tower every day.

Every animal that sails moves to My Island, and new boats and lighthouse colors unlock as you play. Grown-ups can switch to a Classic look with ivory tiles and a dusk harbor. Kids Mode (tap the turtle) makes every picture appear exactly twice, so the board can never get stuck, and the hint hand arrives after four seconds.
