How to play

  • Tap a bolt to unscrew it. It flies to the box of its color, or waits in the tray if that box is not showing yet.
  • A plate with one bolt left swings; take its last bolt and the plate drops off the board.
  • Plates on top hide the bolts under them, so clear the top plates first.
  • Each full box bolts a part onto the robot. Clear every plate to switch it on.
  • A full tray with no move left means Stuck: try again, or use an undo, extra tray spot or hammer you earned.
  • Kids Mode (tap the turtle): seven tray spots, bolts that hop back home, free undo and no game over.

Controls

  • Phone, tablet or mouse: Tap a bolt to unscrew it (with a mouse, hover first to see where it will fly). The buttons under the board are undo, hammer, extra tray spot, hint and restart.
  • Keyboard: Arrow keys or W A S D move the ring between bolts, Space or Enter unscrews. Z undoes, H shows a hint, T adds a tray spot, X arms the hammer (then pick a bolt of the plate and press Space). Esc or P pauses.
  • Gamepad: D-pad moves the ring, A unscrews, B undoes, Y shows a hint, X adds a tray spot. Start pauses.

Tips

  • Hover over a bolt, or hold it on a phone, to see the box or tray spot it will fly to before you let go.
  • The row at the top shows every box in order. Take bolts whose box is showing first, so they skip the tray.
  • Three stars: never hold more bolts in the tray than the level's par, and use no undo, hammer or extra spot. Hints are free.
  • Undo, the hammer and the extra tray spot are earned by playing. If you get stuck, the Stuck screen offers one you have.

About this game

Unscrew the bolts, drop the plates and build a robot!

Bolt Drop is a cheerful workshop puzzle. Colored plates lie on a wooden board, held in place by brass bolts. Tap a bolt and it spins out and flies into the box of its color. When a plate has just one bolt left, it swings on it like a door. Take the last one and the plate clatters off the board.

Each box holds three bolts, and when it is full it zips across to the toy robot beside the board and bolts on a part: chunky wheels, arms, a jet pack, an antenna and finally the head. When the last plate falls, the robot switches on, its eyes light up and it does a little spin dance.

Plates stack in layers, so a plate on top hides the bolts under it. Only two boxes show at a time, and a bolt with no box yet waits in a tray of five spots. Fill the tray and you are stuck, so plan ahead: which plate comes off first, and which box comes next? Every level knows the smallest tray it can be solved with, its par. Keep the tray at par and you earn three stars. From level 13, a tricky level every five levels tests your planning.

Every color has its own shape and pattern, so the game reads well for color-blind players too. The first five levels teach one idea at a time with a ghost hand and picture cards. There are 120 levels and 12 robots to collect on your robot shelf.

Kids Mode (tap the turtle) gives seven tray spots, sends bolts back home when the tray is full, makes undo free and never ends the game early. Play free on a phone, tablet or computer.
